Timo Glock has recalled his initial confusion about the critical influence he inadvertently had on the outcome of the 2008 F1 world championship.
During the final round in Brazil, Toyota made a risky decision to keep their drivers on dry tyres despite the rain. This decision backfired when the rain intensified with only three laps to go. Glock struggled to keep control of his car and lost a place to Hamilton at the final corner. This position change ultimately gave Hamilton the championship over Massa. Due to Glock’s German nationality, there were accusations in the media that he purposely helped the McLaren team, leading to wild accusations and death threats against him and his family for years to come. Glock stated that he had no idea of the magnitude of what had happened until he was surrounded by journalists after the race.
